Company History
In 1985, Ontrack Data Recovery founders, Michael Rogers, John Pence and Gary Stevens saw a need in the disk drive market and developed their first product, Disk Manager® software, a hard disk installation utility. When introduced, Disk Manager software broke the then current 32 megabyte size limit in DOS and allowed access to the new larger 40 megabyte hard drives. Disk drive manufacturers wanted to offer their users this Ontrack software solution, and many began bundling Disk Manager software with the drives they produced. To date, Disk Manager has installed more than 80 million drives worldwide.
Ontrack Data Recovery software development efforts are recognized by industry leaders, including Microsoft, Apple, Sun, SCO and Novell. In fact, Ontrack Data Recovery for NetWare software, a NLM data protection and recovery utility for Novell systems, is even featured by Novell in their Certified NetWare Engineer training courses. Software is an integral part of the Ontrack Data Recovery data protection and recovery solution. In 1998, Ontrack purchased EasyRecovery™ software. This self-service software solution allows users to recover data in situations that call for limited sophistication. This relatively inexpensive, do-it-yourself data recovery software product offers an alternative solution to Ontrack Data Recovery’s Remote Data Recovery™ (RDR®) or in-lab data recovery services.
In 1999, Ontrack acquired Mijenix Corporation and added ZipMagic®, Fix-It Utilities™, PowerDesk® and the EasyUpdate™ SDK to their collection of software solutions. In November of 1999, four new products; Ontrack SystemSuite™ 2000, EasyUninstall™ 2000, ZipMagic 2000 and Fix-It Utilities 2000 were released.
Since its first data recovery in 1987, Ontrack Data Recovery experts have recovered data from more than 125,000 systems. The Company's effort to bring users advanced data recovery and technologies has resulted in a breakthrough technology, Remote Data Recovery™ services. With this patented process, our engineers perform complete data recoveries directly on a customer's computer from a remote location. Because Remote Data Recovery customers do not need to send their equipment to a professional lab for recovery, Ontrack's experts are able to provide a real-time data recovery solution that is fast, convenient and safe. Ontrack Data Recovery has also used their technology to develop a specialized service aimed at the legal, government and corporate communities: Electronic Evidence. Using specialized tools and techniques, Ontrack technicians can enter virtually any type of media or storage device to locate, recover and analyze computer data evidence. These services have already successfully assisted clients in a wide variety of cases, including sexual harassment, copyright infringement, employee theft and mergers/acquisitions. It is yet another way that Ontrack innovation leads and defines the computer technology industry. |
